United States Diary publishes Tamaulipas Narco News

Translated for Borderland Beat from a Proceso article by O.B.F-W

United States Diary publishes accounts given by citizen reporters on narco violence in Tamaulipas.

To break the circle of an information blackout that has been around for some years for the cartels in Tamaulipas, the Digital Diary Brietbart, from the United States, are called by Citizen reporters anonymously on violent events in Tamaulipas.

The Texan Diary, with strong circulation on the internet, has published in English and Spanish a series of articles with the name Cartel Chronicles, signed under a pseudonym for Journalists who risk their lives every day, to disseminate to the public, the manner in which criminal groups seek to silence their communities.

According to Breitbart, the reports that they publish help to attain the attention at the highest levels of the violence and corruption in which they live on the border between Mexico and the United States, and this way, the truth and reality of living in said region could be visible to the Citizens of other Countries.

In their investigations and anonymous reports, the Texas site put special emphasis on the activities and operation of the Gulf Cartel, the top and oldest criminal group in the region, that in these moments are threatened by external and internal situations, traitors, and disputes with rival factions such as Los Zetas that are bringing a new wave of violence that may affect social and economic activities of Texan Cities.

Breitbart also analyses how the medias of communication of the region have been threatened. The reporters of some television and print, have been killed when reporting on the violence and corruption.

Brave Citizen Journalists are using social networks under pseudonyms to carry the voice about the incomparable violence and the corruption at all levels. When they have been discovered, these Citizen Journalists have been killed because of accurate digital media.

Headed by two Journalists, Ildefonso Ortiz and Brandon Darby, a team of halves that straddle the border cities of Reynosa and Matamoros, in Tamaulipas, with the aim of supporting the few Citizen Journalists that exist in the region and attract them as contributors to research that makes a digital newspaper.

This past week the organization Article 19 released some information denominated State Censured, where it documents 50 attacks with explosives or firearms against Communication Media. The States most affected with a total of 28 attacks are Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas.

Furthermore from 2006 - 2015 the organization documented 53 attacks on media installations with explosives and firearms. The States with the highest numbers of attacks are Tamaulipas, Chihuahua and Nuevo Leon. Where in the world is Broly Banderas?

Lucio R. for Borderland Beat

The social media loving scicario seems to have vanished.

Broly Banderas, whose legal name is Antonio Olalde, could not get enough of selfie posting and social media shout outs, and had a huge following. He regularly posted updates and then abruptly left social media and no further reports of his whereabouts or anything about him was forth coming.

La Tuta mentioned Broly in one of his videos. Real or not he gave the impression he did not know Broly, who is/was one of the leaders of an enforcer group working for Caballeros Templarios. But Tuta seemed intrigued with the social media aspect of Broly’s life and knew the number of followers Broly had accumulated on Facebook. He did say Broly was from Sinaloa, but he acted as tough he knew nothing more about him.

Broly spoke about the dangers of his posting on social media, and the need to be cautious of what he posted. Texcoco was able to have access to him through a mutual friend. Texcoco shared with BB the only known interview of Broly, he was direct in answering questions, sent in by readers, but refrain from answering some, “I am not going to answer that”. Grillonautas ran an interview which Broly quickly deemed it fake.

There are no records of his death, and of course he was never captured.

This is the last post from Broly link here, from June 25, 2014.

Por un Michoacan Libre SDR posted on Thursday this photo of Broley, and report that the Government nor autodefensa groups have any information of him or his whereabouts.

They point out that while CT has taken a harsh defeat, they continue to operate in cells and small groups. For example last Wednesday they executed port chief admiral José Luis Corro Chavez a high command of the Marina in Lazaro Cardenas Michoacan. So it isn't that they have lost all relevancy or are fearsome of being aggressive. Their dynamic has greatly altered, but they are in operation.

It could be that Broly was ordered killed for drawing too much attention, or another mishap of judgement. That is a likely scenario.

But again, no one knows...

Or whoever knows, has remained silent up to now.

The Fourth District Court of Amparo in Penal Matters of Jalisco, ordered the Court Clerk to attend Cefereso No 2, to notify the inmate that the lawsuit had been filed on his behalf, and to ratify with the inmate the contents to decide on the Amparos admission.

If the request is ratified, the complainant will be asked to detail the lack of medical care, and a date will follow for the constitutional hearing.

Boss of a Cell of CJNG, one of the victims of confrontation in Jalisco

Translated for Borderland Beat from a Proceso article by Otis B Fly-Wheel

After a new confrontation occurred on the Monday night in Jalisco, the second of the week, the State Attorney General confirmed the death of four presumed criminals. Among them was Heriberto Acevedo Cardenas, "El Gringo", Boss of a cell of Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion, and only identified now.

Heriberto Acevedo Cardenas, "El Gringo"

According to the Attorney General Luis Carlos Najera, "El Gringo" was the leader of organised crime cells in the Towns of Tlajomulco, Cocula, Zacoalco, Tapalpa and Atemajac de Brizuela.

Further to this he was the guy who bribed the Cocula Police Chief to enable the Cartel to work freely, forcing the State Attorney to take charge of security in the town since last December, he said.

At the press conference, the prosecutor said the alleged cartel leader, orchestrated the attack in which four soldiers were killed who secured a fuel farm in the Town of Guachinango in May 2014.

"El Gringo" had two current arrest warrants, for homicide and qualified theft. He had ten previous serious crimes on record, like theft of Fuel, kidnapping, and his participation in at least nine other homicides.

He was also involved in other cases(Otis: much easier to blame dead men for crimes to increase the crimes solved rate), in the death of two Police detectives, who presumably he tried to bribe the operator so he could "milk" the pipeline and steal the fuel. It was "El Gringo" that ordered his death.

The confrontation

The new confrontation that left four dead, between those of "El Gringo", occurred on the night of Monday passed, in the town of Sureno de Zocoalco de Torres, around kilometre 17, around the freeway of Guadalajara - Colima, and 125 kilometres distant from Ocotlan where the previous confrontation occurred last Thursday, that left 11 dead, among them 5 Gendarmeria and three civilians caught in the cross fire.( See BB reporter DD article on the confrontation)

According to the State Authorities, the crew of a white van, ignored a signal to stop by State Force 1, who intended to carry out a routine stop and search.

As they fled, the presumed sicarios opened fire on the Police, including fire from a 40mm grenade launcher, informed the prosecutor. The gunmen rolled the vehicle causing it to ignite, an officer was shot in the right thigh and had two ricochet injuries to his calf, but he is reported as out of danger.

At the scene of the confrontation, the Police found five 40 mm grenades, a .50 cal Barrett sniper rifle, three assault rifles and two pistols. The Police also found 500 cartridges in a radius of 400 metres from where the altercation occurred.

At first it was reported that only three people died, but the Prosecutor confirmed today that it was four dead, their bodies were taken to the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences, for corroboration of the other identities. The identity of "El Gringo" was established by fingerprinting.

The new confrontation occurred five days after the other confrontation between the Federal Police and presumed operators of the CJNG, in the Town of Ocotlan, when 11 people were killed, among them 5 Gendarmeria, 3 Sicarios, and three Civilians, among them a woman and a minor.

According to the official report, this confrontation left 29 vehicles damaged by gun fire, 7 of those from the Gendarmeria, three vehicles of the hit men, three motorcycles the rest civilian cars. After the confrontation, they found 10 pistols, 18 rifles, two fragmentation grenades, and two 40mm grenades in 31 farms.

The Good Times Are Rolling at Galveston’s Mardi Gras

When someone thinks of Mardi Gras, they usually think of New Orleans. And that makes sense since the first Mardi Gras in America is believed to have taken place in Louisiana on March 3, 1699. Add to that the fact that Louisiana is the only state in which Mardi Gras is actually a legal holiday, and you can...
